Two Great Organs

The following narrative gives the specifications and tells the history of the two great organs
of the Szombathely Cathedral. The Kober/Dorner/Peppert organ was ordered in 1808 and completed in
1814. It had been expanded over the ensuing 131 years, and was last played at the morning service on
March 4, 1945. Several smaller organs were used later, including a Wurlitzer organ gifted to the cathedral
in 1951. The present great Aquincum organ was installed in 1999.
This writer hopes to obtain a sample sound track of these two great organs, and will
provide them as a sound file for historical purposes when and if they become available. If a visitor to this

Az itt következő leirás illusztrálja a Szombathely-i székesegyház
kiváló két nagy orgonájának a méreteit, konstrukcióját
és történetét. Kober Ignác 1808-ban kapta a megrendelést az első
orgonához, majd Donner, és később Peppert fejezték be a munkát
1814-ben. Az orgona mérete bővült a következő 131 év folyamán,
és az orgonista 1945. március 4-én a délelőtti szentmisén szólaltatta
meg utoljára. Pár kisebb orgonát használtak később, köztük
egy ajándék Wurlitzer orgonát is. Ezt váltotta fel a jelenlegi kiváló
Aquincum orgona 1999-ben.
